When seeking the best material for the job, architects frequently choose shipping containers for their versatility.

The owner of Laneway, the undisputed king of Adelaide pop up bars, certainly appreciates the versatile virtues of shipping containers.

Every year Antony Tropeano reinvents his container outpost with a fresh paintjob, new décor, inventive renovations and a seasonal theme – just in time for spring.

The fourth and most recent incarnation of the popular shipping container bar has a hipster-friendly emphasis on gin.

With twelve boutique gins available from the downstairs container bar, patrons can sip on a range of innovative juniper-licious concoctions in the venue’s outdoor Gin Garden or in the cosy mint-green confines of the upstairs container lounge.

Tropeano said, “The refreshed new look of Laneway IV will feel like you’ve entered the ultimate outdoor garden party, with a big focus on gin… Laneway IV will be known as THE place to get a delicious gin infused beverage.”

Despite its distinctly temporary, makeshift vibe, the ever-changing bar has made its permanent home, tucked away in a laneway off Hindley Street in Adelaide’s CBD.

When it opened, four seasons ago, the container haven became an instant hit with the locals.

Following Laneway’s pioneering lead, numerous other pop up bars have started to spring up in Adelaide in recent years.
