When Showvision Australia built the Tough Mudder media centre, it had to be strong, resilient and agile – just like the contestants it caters to. The decision to use a shipping container was a no-brainer.

For the uninitiated, Tough Mudder is a team-oriented 18-20 km obstacle course designed to test physical strength and mental grit.

Promoting camaraderie over finisher rankings, Tough Mudder is not a timed race – it’s a team challenge where participants experience a series of difficult yet exhilarating obstacles.


The custom-built containerised media bunker travels to various Tough Mudder events across Australia, giving contenders a place to compare statistics and view photos and videos of the event.

The media centre is also equipped with a yellow chin-up bar mounted inside the container for contestants who want to keep their biceps extra busy during the event.


Built by Port Shipping Containers, the final fit out has two internally mounted 50-inch TV screens on each side wall and four 50-inch screens mounted in the external compartment.


The sides of the 20-foot cube container are converted into two hydraulic decks, which are covered by remote controlled retractable awnings, built into the structure for easy transport and stacking.

The container’s original flooring was removed and lined with stainless checker-plate steel.


To complete the boot camp aesthetic, the exterior of the container is covered in army camouflage colours while the interiors are painted black.
